One tactic will turbocharge your impact
Recruiters across the world are feeling depleted.
Many are required to do business development like never before.
Outbound sales is difficult, as prospects are reluctant to engage.
Many are running out of ideas and unhappy with their work lives. AI looms as a threat because big chunks of the recruiter job will be automated.
Recruiters need something uncomplicated, positive and productive.
Here is a simple strategy that I encourage you to execute every day
And not just recruiters. For effective recruitment leaders, this is mandatory.
Here it is
Make three phone calls a day
To people not expecting to hear from you.
Reach out.
Connect.
Engage
Ask questions about them, their current successes, their concerns, challenges, and views on matters of mutual interest.
- The old client who has moved on
- The candidate you placed years ago who has changed jobs
- The temp you lost contact with
- The candidate you worked with but did not place.
- Ex-employees or colleagues
- Someone you met at an event with whom you connected.
- Suppliers who work in your space.
- A current candidate you promised ‘to get back to’.
Don’t ask for anything. Just engage, listen, empathise and share.
Do this every day, and good things will happen.
You will also feel immeasurably better, which will greatly help with the rest of your day.
One final point;
Don’t only do this because the market is tough, you have few jobs, and you don’t know how to sell.
When the market shifts, and you are flooded with work again (and it will), keep doing this simple activity. It’s an investment, not a gimmick.
Remember, you don’t win friends in crisis.
Build your goodwill equity because you will need to cash it in one day.
(This idea was stolen shamelessly from a post I saw from Chris Savage. But he is right, and to be fair, if you have known someone for over 60 years and they have been a constant disappointment, it is nice to get even a tiny bit of ROI. Love you, Chrissie)
